Meet Cholo. Owner of Fine Line Tattoos.

8th Aug 2019

For Cholo, Melbourne is family. Memories of his yearly family trip to Moomba Festival. Memories of sitting at home watching his brother draw. Melbourne is home, the adopted home of his immigrant parents.

Owner of Fine Line Tattoos in Richmond, Cholo credits his brother for inspiring him to follow an artistic career path. He then spent years developing his artistic style, and next his business concept.

This was until a few years ago when he took a risk. One that saw him go against the grain of the tattoo industry and open his studio.

“I kept getting told by people that it wasn’t going to work or the idea wasn’t necessarily something that was in scope with the tattoo industry of Australia. But I decided to take the risk and just fight through that. And like I said, I’ve been fortunate that from day one it’s taken off and it continues to go down that path.

Part of his success comes from the noted quality of the work. Part also, the experience Fine Line offers. But he does it simply because he loves art. He loves tattoos. And, getting to meet people every day that want a little piece of his art on their body.

“We try to focus on quality work, but we’ve tried to develop an experience. So that, from the moment you come through that door to the moment you leave, you’ve left with not only just a tattoo but with a connection and an experience with the artist.”

Having derived his work ethic from his parents, Cholo is conscious of knowing sometimes he needs to take a step back for his own family’s sake. But at the same time, his sights are on taking small steps towards his goals.

“I want to grow. I want to expand. I want the people around me, the people I work with, to also grow and expand…Right now the goal is to just slow down a little bit but at the same time just focus on smaller goals instead of trying to take over everything.”
